Sagehen Research Station, Truckee, California
Burning House
According to their website “Sagehen Creek Field Station is a research and teaching facility of the University of California at Berkeley located in the Central Sierra Nevada north of Truckee, California.” Part of their programming includes putting on art exhibitions that relate to their mission.
Along with artist and collaborator, Ethan Turpin, we went there to be part of a contemporary art show curated by Shirley Watts of Natural Discourse. The theme of the exhibition centered around forest fire and regeneration. We put up the three screens for “Walk into Wildfire” in the forest but the new thing was projecting a blended collage of burning house videos onto the front facade of Sagehen’s Invisible House.
